When you speak to an audiologist about getting hearing aids, they will take you through everything that you need to know about wearing hearing aids and how to care for them. More than that, though, they will talk you through the processes involved in hearing aid repairs. This will lead to you being able to confidently handle it if something goes wrong. You can even – in some cases – handle hearing aid repairs yourself.

However, this isn't the best thing to do, especially if you are a novice when it comes to handling a hearing aid for the first time. When you realize that you need hearing aid repairs, the first thing that you should do is speak to your audiologist and ensure that they are aware of the issues you are experiencing. If you need hearing aid repairs but the appointment for your audiologist is too far off, you need to know what to do if you need hearing aid repairs.

Give Your Hearing Aids A Thorough Check

Hearing aids may be small technology, but they can be pretty simple to diagnose. Is it switched on? Is there gunk in any of the body or the wiring? Is the volume too low?

Each of these things are pretty easy to fix on your own and if you can identify the issue, you’re already halfway there! If they’re wet or dirty, a gentle clean will make a huge difference to your hearing aids and you can wipe out the compartment to check it all works, too.

Check for Damage

Hearing aids are delicate and when they are not handled correctly, they can easily be cracked and damaged. Your audiologist should have shown you all the delicate pieces of the puzzle that are your hearing aids and so it may be possible for you to swap some tubing or replace a wire. However, please don't go ahead and fix any damage if you are in the least bit unsure: you will end up needing to replace them otherwise!

Contact Your Audiologist

If you believe that you need hearing aid repairs, the best thing that you can do is to call your audiologist. If you have the chance to call your audiologist and talk to them about your hearing aid repairs, you should go ahead and do it! They will be able to tell you everything that you need to know about how to fix things for yourself if they can’t get you into an appointment any time soon.

Hearing aids need your care and your attention. If you leave them lying around or you're careless in your handling, it won’t be a shock to you that they will need some help and attention to get back to their best. Don't tamper with your hearing aids if you don't know what you’re doing or you could make the problem much worse than it needs to be! Take the time to learn how to fix the issue if there is one but speak to your audiologist first!
